Our organization was formerly called Praesidium Partners. As we have grown and met more partners, one of those we met was Praesidium, Inc. of Arlington, TX. Praesidium politely asked us to consider changing our name, as they had been using that similar name for much longer than we, and it was their intellectual property.
Elizabeth Heyrick was an abolitionist in early 19th Century England. At that time, the most prominent anti-slavery voices, to include William Wilberforce, believed that slavery would gradually die out on its own once the right laws were passed. Elizabeth Heyrick became a radical leader of an alternate viewpoint, that nothing less than immediate abolition and complete emancipation of slaves was satisfactory. She felt that the anti-salvery establishment was being entirely too patient, too polite, and too accommodating of existing systems that relied on the slave trade. We like Heyrick’s tenacity, and we really like her belief that a society such as ours should not tolerate slavery or exploitation for even just one more day.
So we decided to name ourselves after her.
